Forearm Fulcrum paddle

The Forearm Fulcrum paddle improves the efficiency of a swimmer’s stroke by holding the wrist, elbow and shoulder at the optimal position while focusing on technique development as opposed to the strength building.

The Forearm Fulcrum paddle is designed to complement paddles, and can be used by swimmers of all levels to improve stroke technique and has applications for all four competitive strokes.

The Forearm Fulcrum paddle has two closed sections. One of the sections fits around the forearm, with the swimmer placing their hand in the other closed section. The process of placing their hand through the two sections creates an ideal elbow / wrist angle during the ‘catch’ phase of stroke initiation. The act of creating this angle corrects the stroke technique of the user, teaching ‘muscle memory.’

Decreasing elbow angle is a way of fixing a dropped elbow during the catch phase of freestyle pull. A dropped elbow causes pressure to be exerted on the water in a more vertical than horizontal motion. Swimmers with this technical problem tend to hold their elbow below the level of their hand.

As a result, force is exerted down on the water rather than towards the feet. Swimmers that have corrected this fault tend to have a much more efficient stroke, enhancing their endurance and stroke consistency, while reducing the probability of injury.

To overcome this problem and become a more efficient swimmer, a high elbow position is required. This position maximizes the propulsive forces produced during a complete pull cycle. Although not all athletes are able to achieve this due to strength, flexibility, or structural problems around their shoulder, it is advantageous to attempt to get as close to this position as possible.

Swimmers using paddles cannot feel the water flow passing over their hand, so when the paddles are removed, the swimmer may tend to overcorrect their stroke, thus creating other technical problems.

The Forearm Fulcrum paddle focuses upon increasing the efficiency of the swimmer’s stroke through the water rather than enhancing upper body strength as is the case with existing paddle-like products.

Applicable use for all 4 competitive strokes.
