Swimmer's Snorkel and Freestyler Snorkel Comparison

Training with a snorkel provides numerous benefits to the swimmer.  Increased lung strength, development of proper head position and the freedom to focus on propulsive techniques directly result from the use of a snorkel.

These benefits can be gained by swimmers of any ability from recreational swimmers to triathletes;  beginners to masters.  The use of a snorkel allows swimmers to concentrate on body balance, head position and stroke technique by eliminating the breathing cycle rotation, and promotes proper body alignment, complete axis rotation and arm stroke pattern.

Many of the world's fastest swimmers use Finis's patented, center-mount snorkel in practice every day.

Finis offers two types of snorkels:  the all-purpose Swimmer's Snorkel and the singularly-focused Freestyler Snorkel.

The Swimmer's Snorkel is for athletes who train consistently and regularly swimming multiple strokes.  The tube on the Swimmer's Snorkel rotates 180 degrees so that it can be used for all strokes:  freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and even side stroke.  Additionally, the Swimmer's Snorkel contains a purge-valve for easily expelling any water that may have entered the tube and contains a surgical-grade silicone mouthpiece for added comfort.  It is also available in a Junior size with a shorter tube to account for the developing lungs of younger swimmers.  This is a premier multi-purpose snorkel for swimmers with a broad and diverse training program that incorporates all strokes.

The Freestyler Snorkel is, as it sounds, designed specifically for freestyle training.  It is intended for swimmers that mainly or exclusively swim the freestyle stroke – triathletes, for example, whose event requires them only to compete at freestyle; or any competitive freestyler looking to shave seconds off their time.  It is a must-have for freestyle sprinters as it promotes a lower head position for faster times.  It is about half the price of the Swimmer's Snorkel and does not contain features that the freestyle-centric swimmer is unlikely to use, instead focusing entirely on furthering a better freestyle form.  The tube is fixed/non-rotating, fitting closer to the head and face for less resistance and increased stability.  Its new design uses centrifugal force to restrict water entering the tube, allowing for the elimination of the purge valve.  No Junior version is available.
