Snorkel Training TipsA centre mounted snorkel eliminates the head turn in the breathing cycle, so the swimmer can devote full attention to body alignment, complete and symmetrical long axis rotation and arm stroke pattern. An increased cardiovascular workout will also result when training with the snorkel. Below are a few drills that emphasize these benefits. Balance Drill: - Arms at side with a steady kick. Adjust the head to a positive alignment, while pressing the T-Zone and rotating the hips forward to get a complete balance from the head down to the spine and rest of the body.
- Find the correct head position and body position that allows for the greatest sensation of motion.
Head Lead Drill: Similar to the drill above, adding rotation along the long axis. With the head positively aligned forward, rotation is complete when the hip and shoulder are out of the water. The Shark Drill: - Arms extended, moderate but steady kick. Begin stroke with left arm and start rotation to right side. Complete rotation to right side as arm strokes through.
- Recover with high elbow and delay in shark fin position for at least six kicks. Resume stroke and repeat drill on opposite side. Maintain positive alignment throughout rotation and six-kick delay.
My snorkel is leaking, how do I fix it? If you have a snorkel which appears to be leaking, it can only be happening from the purge valve section of the snorkel. The purge valve is located under the mouth piece and this allows water to be expelled from the tube. Over time it is possible for debris or contaminants to wedge between the soft silicone gasket and the hard plastic purge retainer. It is also possible to loose the entire purge valve as it can be removed for cleaning. |
